Materials + Supplies:
• Mixing Container
• Rubber Gloves
• Particle Mask
• Mixing Stick or Trowel
• ShapeCrete Mix
• Water
Clay-Like Mix Ratio:
• Approximately 4 Parts Mix : 1 Part Water
ShapeCrete becomes Clay-Like with a slight decrease in water content.
4 Parts Mix : 1 Part Water
Measure out 4 Parts ShapeCrete Mix and 1 Part Water.
The ratio of 4:1 is approximate! Adjust the water content as necessary.
STEP 1: Pour Half the Recommended Water in the Mixing Container
Pour half of the water in the mixing container. Set the remaining water aside. Adding water gradually will ensure you don't get the mix too wet.
STEP 2: Add 4 Parts Mix
Add the first cup of ShapeCrete to the water. Mix thoroughly and then add the second cup and third cup. Continue mixing and then add the fourth cup of mix.
STEP 3: Add Remaining Water as Necessary
Gradually add the rest of the water as needed. Be sure to scrape the sides and bottom of the mixing container until there are no dry clumps of mix.
STEP 4: Check the Mix Consistency
Test the consistency of the mix by forming a ball in your hands. The ball should hold its shape, but as you move your hand back and forth, the mix should settle into your fingers while still holding its shape.
Also try packing the mix up the side of the mixing container. When it is a Clay-Like consistency, a thin pad will hang vertically.
CLAY-LIKE MIX SUMMARY:
After the mix has reached the desired consistency, it is ready to pack into your form. If you leave the mix to set for a few minutes, it will stiffen up. You can loosen the mix back up by stirring it again and adding a little bit of water. In a shaded environment you have about 30-60 minutes of work time.
It is always a good idea to cover your project with plastic while it cures. This will help keep moisture inside which will help prevent surface cracks.
For best results, always allow your project to cure for at least 24 hours before removing it from the mold.
